The Importance of Understanding

About Steven Avery Category

Avery was released from prison in 2003 when it was proved that he was convicted of a sexual assault which he did not commit. His release was the result of effort by the Wisconsin Innocence Project. He had spent eighteen years in prison before being released.

On October 31, 2005, a photographer, Teresa Halbach went missing. Her charred bones were discovered in a burn pit on the Avery family and business property. Her vehicle was discovered in the Avery auto salvage yard.

Since, Steven Avery has been charged with the murder and mutilation of Teresa Halbach. His sixteen-year-old nephew has been charged as well.

My intent here is to examine several facets of the case: the behavior of press and television news reporters and anchors; the behavior of police, prosecutors and defense; the inability of our bursting prison system to address behavior in prisoners; wimpy behavior by legislators; and group behavior toward criminal charges. And a big one; how can we address potential and future violence starting at a very early age?
